The Yachtsmen mascot, once the pride of Falmouth High School in Maine, is a fascinating piece of school history. The Yachtsmen were represented by a quirky character named Yachtie – an angry, bearded sailor with a sailor’s hat and a menacing scowl. However, over time, the name and mascot started to feel outdated and exclusive, prompting students and staff to call for a change. In 2021, the school decided to retire the Yachtsmen and Yachtie, opting for a more inclusive name: the Navigators 🛡️. This change reflects the school's commitment to being more welcoming and modern.
