Meet Purdue Pete, the mascot for Purdue University in Indiana Purdue Pete has a cool history that dates back to 1940 when two bookstore owners, Doc Epple and Red Sammons, hired an artist named Art Evans to create a logo for their store. This logo was a muscular guy with a mallet, representing a boilermaker, which is a tradesperson who makes and repairs boilers [ICON_hammer]. It wasn't until 1944 that he got his name, "Pete," and he first appeared in the Purdue yearbook. Pete officially became the school's mascot in 1956 and has been cheering on the Boilermakers ever since. Today, there are four students who get to be Purdue Pete each year, and they do a fantastic job keeping school spirit high at football and basketball games ๐. Ngl, it's pretty awesome to see how a simple logo turned into such an iconic mascot โญ
