Initially, the school's athletic teams were known as the "Blue J’s," but things got more exciting when a club called the “Jay Birds” was formed in January 1923. Since then, the Blue Jay has become an integral part of school spirit, appearing on white sweaters and later evolving into the official mascot and team name.
